Murray, Joyce Tally Goals for Camels
MALDEN, Mass.--Sean Murray (Stamford, Conn.) and Ryan Joyce (Dorchester, Mass.) scored third period goals to pull Connecticut College (1-7 , 1-4) to within a goal but it was not quite enough as the Tufts Jumbos (5-2-1, 3-1-1) secured their fifth straight win with a 3-2 victory at the Valley Forum Saturday.
Scott Barchard (Reading, Mass.) made 35 saves in the victory for the Jumbos. Connecticut College senior Greg Parker (Trenton, Ont.) stopped 37 of 40 shots in the loss.
The Camels and Jumbos tallied 13 shots each in the opening period but the game remained scoreless after one. The Jumbos cashed in on their power play at 4:47 of the middle period when Tom Derosa (Charlestown, Mass.) potted his third goal of the season. Freshman Dylan Plimmer (Phoenix, Ariz.) made it a 2-0 game when he netted his third marker of the season with 13:40 remaining in the second.
With 14:56 remaining in regulation, Lindsay Walker (Castlegar, B.C.) rifled home a shot from the slot and the Jumbos enjoyed a three goal advantage. But the Camels responded with their first goal at the 7:06 mark. Jordan Gray (Mississauga, Ont.) fired a shot near the right circle that went off the blocker and Murray pounced on the rebound with his second goal of the season. J.J. McGregor (Wichita, Kan.) had a hand in the tally.
Ryan Joyce (Dorchester, Mass.) went top shelf for a power play goal with 4:34 remaining to trim the deficit to a goal. Sean Tuohy (Salisbury Mills, N.Y.) and Trevor Bradley (West Hartford, Mass.) assisted on the score.
Connecticut College head coach Jim Ward pulled Parker with 1:21 remaining to gain the extra forward on the ice. Then, with 31 seconds to go, the Jumbos were assessed with a two-minute minor. In the closing moments, Tuohy tested Barchard with a powerful blast from the point but Barchard was able to get his glove on the high rising shot and the Jumbos were able to hold on for the 3-2 victory.
