Frank Loomis Palmer Fund grant supports Connecticut College's community outreach programs10/19/2009
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College has been awarded almost $40,000 in grants from the Frank Loomis Palmer Fund to support the college's community mentorship programs and the Connecticut College Children's Program. The Connecticut College Children's Program was awarded $25,000 to support transportation needs. The Children's Program provides a model child and family-focused early childhood education within a community context for infants and young children of diverse backgrounds and abilities in Southeastern Connecticut.
The college's Office of Volunteers for Community Service (OVCS) has received $14,500 to support various community mentorship programs, including Students Implementing Services through Education and Reaction (SISTER), Mentoring Youth by Reaching Out through Education and Recreation (My BROTHER) and Advocating Brighter Choices (ABC). These programs foster positive youth development, build relations and improve academic levels.
The Frank Loomis Palmer Fund, for which Bank of America serves as trustee, awards grants to nonprofit organizations that serve the art and cultural, educational, health care and human service needs of underserved populations.
