The Connecticut College Athletic Hall of Fame will welcome four new inductees in a special ceremony held on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 in New London.

The Class of 2008 inductees (with links to their full biographies) are:

Caroline Davis ’99 (soccer, basketball),
The team of Dan Gallagher ’81 and Livingston Johnson ’79 (rowing)
Joan Fluegelman Wexler ’53 (field hockey, basketball, softball)

The class will be recognized briefly during the halftime of a 2 p.m. women’s basketball game against Wesleyan. At 5 p.m., plaques will be unveiled in the Hall of Fame Room off the foyer of the Charles B. Luce Fieldhouse. The athletes will also be honored at a dinner after the ceremony.

Fran Shields, the Katherine Wenk Christoffers '45 Director of Athletics at Connecticut College, is looking forward to the induction and anticipates an exciting day with the ushering in of the Class of 2008.

“We’re extremely proud of this year’s Athletic Hall of Fame class,” he said. “Caroline Davis and the rowing pair of Gallagher and Johnson took their teams to the highest level possible; and Fluegelman Wexler personified the spirit of fitness and wellness in the College’s early years. These alumni reaffirm our mission to educate the entire person.”

The Athletic Hall of Fame, created in 1989, annually honors individuals who have brought distinction to themselves and the College through commitment, achievement, sportsmanship and leadership in athletics.

The game and unveiling ceremony are free and open to the public. For information regarding induction dinner tickets, please contact Judy Richard at 860-439-2541 or judy.richard@conncoll.edu.
