Camels Open Season with Strong 2nd Place Showing at Amherst 5k Invite
AMHERST, Mass.--The Connecticut College women´s cross country team opened the 2010 season in Amherst, Mass. with the Amherst College 5k Invitational. The Camels placed four runners among the top 11 finishers to secure a second place score of 51 points.
Amherst College, ranked #14 in the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) pre-season poll, coasted to the win with a score of 15 points.
The Camels were able to defeat Springfield (79 pts.), a team that they finished behind last November at the New England Division III Championship. Wheaton College scored 117 points to finish in fourth place.
Senior Chiara Pandolfi (Rome, Italy) was the first Camel to the finish line in eighth place with a time of 20:53. Grace Glynn (Saco, Maine) posted a time of 20:55 to take ninth place in her collegiate debut. Senior Kelsey Taylor (East Hampton, Conn.) was 10th overall in 20:57.
Junior Lindsay Paiva (Coventry, R.I.) was 11th with a time of 21:00. Junior Kerry Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) posted a time of 21:24.8 in 15th place. Ally Bonito (Guilford, Conn.) was next in 21:40. Merry Byrne (Brookside, N.J.) was the seventh Camel finisher with a time of 21:55.
