Camels Win JWU Invitational
Newman Named MVP-DeMais Lands on All-Tournament Team
PROVIDENCE, R.I.--The Connecticut College volleyball team won all four of its matches in the Ocean State this weekend to capture the Johnson & Wales University Invitational crown. Junior All-American Amy Newman (Los Angeles, Calif.) was honored as the most valuable player, finishing with 68 kills and 10 aces for the Camels.
Senior All-American setter Marissa DeMais (Hillsdale, N.J.) dished out 109 assists to land on the all-invitational team for Connecticut College. Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Schroff (Palos Verdes, Calif.) buried 35 kills in the 14 games.
Every member of the team played and contributed in some fashion to the weekend´s success.
The Camels opened the weekend with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-16) victory against Wheaton College Friday evening. In the night-cap, the Camels rallied from two games down to knock off the Keene State Owls in a 3-2 decision. The game scores were 23-25, 17-25, 25-16, 25-10, 15-5.
Saturday morning, the Camels posted a 25-18, 25-14, 25-20 shutout versus Johnson & Wales before closing out the weekend with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-20 triumph against Bridgewater State College.
The Camels will host the Roger Williams University Hawks this Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. match in Luce Field House.
