Bates College 1, Connecticut College 0 Manville Stops Seven Shots in Goal for Camels

NEW LONDON, Conn.-The Bates College women´s soccer team opened the 2010 season by securing a 1-0 victory against host Connecticut College in a NESCAC contest played on Tempel Green Saturday. Alix Vandeventer (North Attleboro, Mass.) buried a header in the 30th minute of action to lift the visitors to the victory. Tina Tobin (Lowell, Mass.) assisted on the tally with a crossing pass for the Bobcats. Junior keeper Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) made three saves en route to the shutout win. Sophomore Kirsten Manville (Fairfax, Va.) had seven stops in the loss for the Camels. The Camels played the Bobcats to a much closer game than the 3-1 loss they suffered a year ago. Ali McKeigue (Arlington, Mass.) supplied two shots to lead the offense. Jill Cote (Portsmouth, R.I.), Trish Guay (North Scituate, R.I.) and Jess Kharasch (Los Angeles, Calif.) chipped in with blocked shots at the defensive end for the hosts. The Camels will host Williams College tomorrow in a noon-time NESCAC match up on Tempel Green.
