Wright Finishes in 60th Place at Iona D-1 Meet of Champions

RIVERDALE, N.Y.--The Connecticut College men´s cross country team opened their season in the Big Apple with the 16th Annual Meet of Champions, hosted by Iona College at Van Cortlandt Park. The Camels placed 17th in the 19 team field but 15 of those teams were Division 1 programs with Division II American International and Shawnee State, the third ranked team in the NAIA being the exceptions. Running with a split squad, the Camels scored 494 points to defeat Division I Youngstown State and Division III Ramapo. La Salle University won the meet with a score of 93 points. The University of Pennsylvania was second with 108 points. Albany placed third with 140 points. Junior co-captain Doug Wright (Darien, Conn.) placed 60th overall with a time of 26:25. Michael LeDuc (Canton, Conn.) was 90th overall with a time of 26:58. Senior Shawn Mulcahy (Lebanon, Conn.) posted a time of 27:29 as the 108th finisher. Andrew Duarte (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was 114th place in 27:57. Colin Gallant (Ashford, Conn.) posted a time of 28:46 in 122nd place. Brenner Green (Lisbon, Conn.) was the 123rd finisher with a time of 28:50. Tim Murtagh (Rowley, Mass.) was the seventh Camel to cross the finish line in 29:01. The Camels also competed in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational Saturday. Connecticut College placed 27th out of 36 teams with 764 points. Keene State College won the invitational with a score of 73 points. MIT and Brandeis were second and third with respective scores of 76 and 79 points. Sophomore Matt Boudreau (Bridgewater, Mass.) was the Camels´ top finisher in 137th place with a time of 27:52 on the 8k course. Hoitt Mcallister (McLean, Va.) was next with a time of 28:18 in 150th place. Andrew Majkut (Upton, Mass.) was the third Camel runner in 173rd place with a time of 28:59. Sophomore Patrick Myers (South Burlington, Vt.) posted a time of 29:23 as the 185th runner. Dan Post (Pepper Pike, Ohio) was next with a time of 29:41 in 199th place. Sophomore Jeff Beling (Framingham, Mass.) placed 216th overall with a time of 30:46. Billy Martinsky (Monroe, Conn.) rounded out the top seven in 218th place with a time of 30:50.
