Prophet Tallies Hat-Trick for Camels
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Trevor Prophet (Nashua, N.H.) registered a hat-trick, scoring all three of his goals in a 10:51 span of the second half as the Connecticut College men´s soccer team snapped its two game slide with a 3-0 shutout victory against UMass Dartmouth on a soggy Tuesday afternoon in New London.
The Camels improve their record to 3-2-1 with the triumph. The Corsairs slip to 5-2 with the setback.
Rookie net-minder Casey Marini (Hampden, Mass.) made three saves en route to his third shutout of the season. Mike Phelan (Carver, Mass.) stopped four shots for the Corsairs in the win.
After a scoreless first half, the Camels got on the board in the 73rd minute of action. Mike Crosby (Sudbury, Mass.) blasted a 50 yard kick that went from left to right. Prophet collected it and deposited a shot into the upper left hand corner of the goal.
Billy Hawkey (Pennington, N.J.) set up the second goal. Hawkey was able to weaver through a pair of defenders near the end line and connect with Prophet out in front for one-timer from point-blank range.
In the 84th minute, Prophet scored the trifecta. Ivan Kukharkin (Stamford, Conn.) delivered a cross to the center of the box and Prophet buried a header to make it a 3-0 game.
Marini and the Camel defense, led by junior Isaac Hancock (Gettysburg, Pa.) took care of the rest.
