Prophet Scores 25th of his Career for Camels
BRUNSWICK, Maine --Ben Denton-Schneider scored in the 84th minute of action to lead the Bowdoin College men´s soccer team past Connecticut College in a 2-1 victory Saturday.
The Polar Bears improve to 3-1-2 with 2-1-2 record in the NESCAC while the Camels slip to 3-3-1 and 1-2-1 in league action.
Nick Maghenzani nearly got the Camels on the board with 41:23 left, ripping off a shot from 25 yards out but Bowdoin keeper Dan Hicks made a diving stab.
Later on in the half, the visitors scored in the 38th minute of action. Freshman Randy Pearce corralled a loose ball in the box and connected with senior Trevor Prophet, who netted a header for the 25th goal of his career.
But the Polar Bears scored the equalizer 1:05 into the second stanza. Tim Prior launched corner into the box and Sean Bishop elevated for a header to knot things up at one.
Connecticut College continued to battle with the Polar Bears. Winslow Murdoch delivered some nice balls from the right side in a strong showing.
But the Polar Bears scored the critical goal that proved to be the difference in the 84th minute on a free kick.
Rookie net-minder Casey Marini finished with eight saves for the Camels. Hicks had one save for the Camels.
The Camels will visit Babson College this Wednesday afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference game.
