Camels Earn Split at Claremont Convergence Tournament

CLAREMONT, Calif.--The Connecticut College men´s water polo team headed west for the 18th annual Claremont Convergence Tournament this weekend. The Camels collected their first two wins of the season, improving their record to 2-7 in a split of four matches. The Camels posted an 11-9 victory versus Cal Tech and added their second win against the same opponent Friday, knocking off the Beavers in a 10-6 triumph. The Camels also dropped an 18-0 decision to the University of La Verne but were much more competitive in a close 11-6 setback against the Stags of Claremont Mudd Scripps. Sophomore net-minder Clayton Witter (Douglassville, Pa.) had 36 saves and 16 steals in the four matches for Connecticut College. Samuel Buchman (Northfield, Ill.) made four stops in one quarter of action in the cage against Cal Tech Thursday. Junior Sam Mitchell (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) enjoyed a productive weekend of play in his home state, leading the Camel offense with five goals in the four matches. Junior Nick Sizer (Simsbury, Conn.), James Green (Potsdam, N.Y.) and Sam Burns (Albuequerqu, N.M) scored four goals each for the Camels. Ryan Pelham (Stonington, Conn.) and Chris Swanson (New Orleans, La.) chipped in with three goals apiece. Jason Robb (Winnetka, Ill.) and Kulameth Phromratanapongse (Bangkok, Thailand) tallied single markers for Connecticut College. The Camels will host MIT this Friday night for an 8:00 p.m. match in Lott Natatorium. -Camels-
