7th Ranked Camels Top 18 Team Field to Win Home Regatta

NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College women´s sailing team hosted the Stu Nelson Trophy Regatta on the Thames River this weekend. The Camels, who have climbed all the way up to #7 in the Sailing World Magazine National Poll, topped the 18 team field with a winning score of 97 points. Third ranked Yale University placed second with 100 points and the Vermont Catamounts raced to a third place finish with 116 points. Connecticut College head sailing coach Jeff Bresnahan was pleased with the team´s effort as they near the conclusion of the fall season. "We´ve sailed three intersectionals and won two of them," Bresnahan said. "I can´t remember that last time we did that! Special thanks to everyone who supported us in this home regatta and all year long." Sophomore skipper Atlantic Brugman (Barcelona, Spain) and senior crew Katrina Salk (Jamestown, R.I.) paired up to win the B division for the hosts with a score of 30 points. "Brugman and Salk sailed really well in the last race to propel us past Yale today," Bresnahan said. In the A division, senior skipper Maggie Shea (Wilmette, Ill.) and sophomore Steph Kapinos (South Hadley, Mass.) scored 67 points en route to their seventh place finish.
