Camels Blank Colby & Bates, Extend Winning Streak to Six Matches

HARTFORD, Conn.--Amy Newman (Los Angeles, Calif.) buried 31 kills in two matches to lead the Connecticut College Camels to shutout victories against Bates and Colby College in NESCAC volleyball action played at Trinity College Saturday. It was the fifth and sixth consecutive wins for the Camels, who improve to 19-6 with a 7-3 record in the NESCAC as the fifth ranked team in New England. Connecticut College finished in a three-way tie for third place with Bowdoin and Tufts but will hold the #5 seed after tie-breaking procedures were applied. The Camels will meet fourth seeded Tufts University in the quarterfinal round this Friday night for an 8:00 p.m. match up at Amherst College. In the 11:00 a.m. match, the Camels defeated Bates 25-19, 25-10 and 25-16. Newman registered a .730 hitting percentage in the match with 15 kills. Rookie right side Sarah Shankel (Loveland, Colo.) buried five kills for the Camels while senior Katie Shragge (San Diego, Calif.) chipped in with four kills for the winning side. Senior setter Marissa DeMais (Hillsdale, N.J.) distributed 26 assists. Ally Terlizzi (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) contributed 12 digs on the defensive side of the ball. In the regular season finale, the Camels upended Colby 25-23, 25-15 and 25-18. Sophomore Katie Ketcham (San Francisco, Calif.) dished out 12 assists in the win. Newman buried 16 kills.
