Coed Sailing Team Places Third out of 18 Teams at R.I. State Championship
NEWPORT, R.I.--The Connecticut College coed sailing team headed to Sail Newport this weekend and Fort Adams State Park to compete in the Rhode Island State Championship Regatta. It´s a familiar venue for head coach Jeff Bresnahan, who directed his team to a fifth place finish in the 2008 ICSA National Dinghy Championship at the same location.
The Camels placed third in the 18 team field this weekend with a score of 96 points. The Seahawks of Salve Regina won the Championship with a total of 49 points. The University of Vermont scored 56 points in a second place showing.
Senior skipper Mike Marshall and junior Marina Gluckman edged out Boston University for eighth place in the A division with a score of 72 points. In the B division, Kevin Martland, Sam Parish and Kevin Lau-Hansen scored 24 points, securing a second place finish for the Camels.
Next weekend, the Camels will head south to Annapolis, Md. to compete in the Atlantic Coast Championship. The fifth ranked Camel women´s sailing team was idle this week and will visit the Sunshine State next weekend to compete in the Atlantic Coast Women´s Championship at Eckerd College.
