Luke Scores Second Period Goal for Camels
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.--The Williams College men´s hockey team earned a 5-1 victory against Connecticut College in the season opener for both teams.
Senior forward Ben Contini (Toronto, Ontario) had a hand in each of the first three tallies for the hosts, finishing with a goal and two assists. Eric Rubino (Woodbridge, Ontario) and John Wickman (Dallas, Tex.) both contributed with a goal and an assist for the winning side. Ryan Purdy (La Jolla, Calif.) stopped 22 shots to earn the win for the hosts.
Connecticut College sophomore Dawson Luke (Wellesley, Mass.) tallied his first collegiate marker in the second period. Sean Curran (Wilmette, Ill.) and Sean Tuohy (Salisbury Mills, N.Y.) assisted on the goal.
Junior Andrew Margolin (Mahwah, N.J.) made 34 saves in goal for the visitors.
Williams held a 9-to-5 shot advantage in the opening period. But the Camels, who were a perfect 5-for-5 in penalty killing situation for the evening, skated off two infractions to keep the game scoreless after one.
Contini put the hosts on the board at the 4:02 mark of the middle period. Midway through the frame, Wickman and Rubino lit the lamp 1:46 apart from each other to make it a 3-0 contest. With 4:43 remaining in the second, Luke answered for the Camels with a power play goal but the visitors could not get any closer and the Ephs added two more goals in the third period to pull away for the 5-1 win.
Connecticut College will visit Middlebury College Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. NESCAC contest.
