ABC News producer is next speaker in Centennial series

During the College's Centennial year, several prominent alumni have returned to campus to share their experiences during and after college as part of a series titled "Great Beginnings: Conversations with Alumni." The next conversation will be with Alice Maggin '91, anchor producer for ABC's "World News with Diane Sawyer," on Friday, Dec. 2, at 8 p.m.

At ABC News, Maggin manages the full spectrum of news coverage, from finding, reporting and writing stories to shooting, directing and editing them. She has covered presidential campaigns, financial markets, natural disasters, sports, lifestyle features, and health and science stories, which have taken her around the world. They've also earned her several awards, including an Emmy and a DuPont, as well as a Peabody for ABC's coverage of the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

In addition to "World News," Maggin has been a producer for other ABC programs, including "Good Morning America," "Nightline," "This Week" and "PrimeTime Live," and held various positions at CBS.

While at the College, Maggin was a campus stringer for The New York Times and spent summers working for political campaigns and organizations such as the Children's Defense Fund, the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic National Convention.

"Alice embodies the liberal arts experience because she deals with a broad range of topics every day and must determine not only what questions to ask but how best to present the results," said Bridget McShane, director of alumni relations. "We're so pleased that she's coming back to share some of her thrilling stories about covering world events as well as insights that will inspire many in the audience."

Maggin will be interviewed by aspiring journalist Grace Pearlman '14 on Friday, Dec. 2, at 8 p.m. in Evans Hall at the Cummings Arts Center.

The event is free and open to the public.
