Newman & Schroff Tally 17 Kills Each to Lead Camels in Home Opener
NEW LONDON, Conn.-The Connecticut College volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory against NESCAC rival Williams College at Luce Field House Friday night. The Game scores were 23-25, 25-20, 25-14 and 25-22.
The Camels improve to 4-2 (1-0 NESCAC), while the Ephs fall to 4-2 with an 0-1 record in league play.
Senior Amy Newman (Los Angeles, Calif.) and junior Rachel Schroff (Palos Verdes, Calif.) registered 17 kills each to lead the hosts. Newman added 16 kills en route to the double-double while Schroff accounted for four solo blocks.
Bianca Smith (San Jose, Calif.) posted a double-double of her own with 11 kills and 15 digs for the winning side. Melissa Kohl (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) chipped in with five kills. Junior setter Katie Ketcham (San Francisco, Calif.) distributed 45 assists in the triumph.
Rookie outside hitter Claire Miller (Wilmette, Ill.) buried 11 kills in the setback for Williams. Junior Haley Eagon (Roseville, Minn.) contributed 10 kills for the visitors. Aly McKinnon (Portola Valley, Calif.) tallied 11 digs and first year setter Amanda Schott (Niskayuna, N.Y.) dished out 24 assists for the Ephs.
