LeDuc, Wright (45th and 48th Place) Pace Camels at Iona Meet of Champions

LeDuc, Wright (45th and 48th Place) Pace Camels at Iona Meet of Champions Complete Results from Iona Green (79th Place) Leads Camels at UMass-Dartmouth Invitational Complete Results from UMass-Dartmouth RIVERDALE, N.Y.-The Connecticut College men's cross country team opened their season in the Big Apple with the 17th Annual Meet of Champions, hosted by Iona College at Van Cortlandt Park. The Camels were the only Division III team in the field but turned in a respectable 12th place finish in the deeply talented 19 team field of competitors with a score of 337 points. The Gaels of Iona College, who are ranked #4 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I Poll, won the meet with a score of 19 points. Leonard Korir of Iona was the individual champion and posted a time of 24:27 on the 8k course, unofficially the eighth fastest recorded time in course history. Connecticut College sophomore Mike LeDuc (Canton, N.Y.) and senior Doug Wright (Darien, Conn.) paced the Camels with 45th and 48th place finishes in respective times of 26:32 and 26:34. Freshman Alex Mavrovic (Thetford Mines, Quebec) posted a time of 27:12 en route to an 89th place finish. Junior Tim Murtagh (Rowley, Mass.) was the 93rd finisher in 27:15. Andrew Duarte (Rocky Hill, Conn.) checked in with a time of 27:19 in 101st place. Mike Joyce (Wallingford, Conn.) was the sixth Camel finisher in 160th place with a time of 28:22. Freshman Patrick Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) posted a time of 28:30 as the seventh Camel finisher in 168th place. Members of the Connecticut College men's cross country team visited the Bay State to compete in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. Senior Brenner Green (Lisbon, Conn.) paced the Camels with a 79th place finish in 26:59 on the 8k course. The Camels placed 17th out of 41 teams with a score of 489 points. MIT won the invitational with a winning score of 26 points. Senior Colin Gallant (Ashford, Conn.) posted a time of 27:22 to finish in 97th place. Junior Matt Boudreau (Bridgewater, Mass.) was the 116th finisher with a time of 27:39. Sophomore Aaron Davis (New London, Conn.) checked in with a time of 27:39 in 117th place. Dan Post (Pepper Pike, Ohio) was the 135th finisher in 27:58. Junior Matt Gitkind (Westborough, Mass.) registered a time of 29:08 in 172nd place. Senior Hoitt McAllister (McLean, Va.) was the seventh Camel finisher in 199th place with a time of 30:05. The Camels placed ninth in the sub-varsity race with 272 points. Patrick Myers (South Burlington, Vt.) posted a time of 28:56 en route to a 52nd place showing for Connecticut College.
