Camels Top Endicott, Fall to Coast Guard Newman, Terlizzi Honored on Senior Day

NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College volleyball team (16-7) earned a split in a tri-match with the Coast Guard and Endicott at Luce Field House Saturday. The Coast Guard Bears (21-5), ranked #6 in New England, defeated the 7th ranked Camels in the noon-time match up, 3-1. The game scores were 18-25, 25-22, 25-17 and 27-25 in favor of the Coast Guard. In the second match of the day, the Bears grounded the Endicott Gulls (12-13), 3-1. The game scores were 23-25, 25-14, 25-20 and 25-12 in favor of the Bears. Connecticut College notched a 3-0 victory against Endicott in the final match up of the afternoon. The game scores were 25-12, 26-24 and 25-20 in favor of the hosts. Connecticut College senior outside hitter Amy Newman (Los Angeles, Calif.) buried 38 kills to go along with 18 digs in the seven games for the Camels. Classmate Ally Terlizzi (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) chipped in with 17 digs in her final home match. Both players were honored in a pre-match ceremony. Newman has amassed 1243 kills, 737 digs, 112 aces and 95 blocks in her prolific playing career while Terlizzi has totaled 1076 digs and 41 aces over the past four years. Junior right side Rachel Schroff (Palos Verdes, Calif.) chipped in with 17 kills in the seven games. Katie Ketcham (San Francisco, Calif.) dished out 61 assists for Connecticut College. Coast Guard junior outside hitter Catherine Walker (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) buried 17 kills against Connecticut College. Karen Matic (Oswego, Ill.) chipped in with 14 kills and 34 assists. Sam Marmolejo (El Paso, Tex.) finished with 26 digs for the Bears. In the Endicott win, Coast Guard sophomore Kelsey DePorto (Frankfort, Ill.) buried 18 kills for the Bears. Marmolejo chipped in with 21 digs while Matic added 24 assists. Endicott College senior Elyse Barbour (Greenville, R.I.) posted 11 kills in the two setbacks for the Gulls. Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) chipped in with 38 digs for Endicott. Senior setter Sarah Allshouse (Berthoud, Colo.) contributed 43 assists in the two matches. -CC-
