LeDuc Garners All-NESCAC Honors for Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College sophomore Mike LeDuc of Canton, Conn. has been named to the first team of the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Cross Country squad for the second consecutive year. LeDuc posted a time of 26:25 to place seventh on the 8k course at the 2011 NESCAC Cross Country Championship hosted by Amherst College Saturday. It was a miraculous recovery for LeDuc, who slipped and fell at the 200 meter mark but was able to recover in resilient fashion for the Camels. After the NESCAC Championships, Connecticut College Men's Cross Country Coach Jim Butler said "Mike did at NESCACs what he always seems to do - peak at the right time and run his best in the championship races." LeDuc, the 2010 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, placed fifth in last year's NESCAC Championship at Hamilton College with a time of 26:23. In just his second year with the program, LeDuc has already inked his name in the Connecticut College annals as one of the top runners to wear the Camel blue. Last spring, LeDuc posted a time of 9:03.72 in the 3000 meter steeplechase to finish sixth in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Ohio Wesleyan University to cap off a memorable rookie season as an All-American for Connecticut College. The performance moved him to #1 on the Connecticut College performance list. Brian Murtagh '09 of Rowley, Mass. held the record with his All-America finish in 9:08.41 at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship. LeDuc posted his qualifying time of 9:13.48 to win the event for the Camels at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship May 19 in Bethlehem, Pa. LeDuc was named to the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Track & Field team after he posted a time of 9:24.40 to finish third in the steeple at Wesleyan University. He garnered All-New England Division III honors with a third place finish at MIT. Back in February of 2011, LeDuc garnered All-New England Division III honors in the 5000 meters at Springfield College, posting a time of 15:18.31 en route to a third place finish.
