Five earn All-NESCAC honors

Five earn All-NESCAC honors Five Connecticut College student-athletes have earned All-NESCAC honors for the fall season, and 41 have been named to the 2011 NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team. The five students named to All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) teams, in alphabetic order, are: Oscar Brown '12 - Men's Soccer Second Team Brown, an economics major, makes his second appearance on the All-NESCAC team. A dangerous offensive threat, he had nine goals, nine assists and 27 points in his career. In 2009, he was honored as an All-NESCAC standout and was recognized on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Region Team. "Oscar was one of the most dynamic forwards in the NESCAC," men's soccer coach Ken Murphy said. Isaac Hancock '12 - Men's Soccer Second Team Hancock, a sociology and American studies double major, was a captain of the Camel defense this fall. A fixture on the field, he played every minute of every game. "Isaac was the glue to our defense," Murphy said. "He is an exceptional student, a very good player and a quality individual who cares about all of his teammates." A Dean's Honors student, Hancock has been named to the NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year. He was recently selected to the Capital One Academic All-District 2 Men's Soccer First Team in Division III and will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. Mike LeDuc '14 - Men's Cross Country First Team LeDuc, a botany major, placed seventh in the 2011 NESCAC Cross Country Championship to earn All-NESCAC honors for the second consecutive year. "Mike did at NESCACs what he always seems to do - peak at the right time and run his best in the championship races," men's cross country coach Jim Butler said. At the New England Division III Championship on Nov. 12, LeDuc finished 41st to lead the team to a 13th place finish in the 48-team field. He has also been named to the NESCAC Fall All-Academic team. Amy Newman '12 - Women's Volleyball First Team This is the third straight All-NESCAC First Team honor for Newman, a mathematics major and team co-captain. She has also been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Team for the third time in her career. "Amy has a fierce competitive drive which has pushed the limits of her athletic prowess over the past few years," volleyball coach Josh Edmed said. "She is a tremendously powerful athlete who has the ability to take over a match at any moment." Newman, an outside hitter, finishes her career ranked second on Connecticut College's all-time kills list with 1,315. She also has 758 digs, 115 aces and 96 blocks for the Camels. Newman has been named to the All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year, and has been selected for the Capital One Academic All-District 2 First Team in Division III. She will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. Kelly Watkins '12 - Field Hockey Second Team Watkins, a psychology major and biology minor, is a standout defender. A captain this year, she has also been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association/ Longstreth Division III All-New England West Region Second Team for the second consecutive year. "Kelly was the backbone of our team this season with her consistent overall play," field hockey coach Debbie Lavigne said. "She was assigned to play against some of the best attackers in the country and was successful defending and creating transitional opportunities using her speed and strong stick skills." Watkins has been equally impressive in the classroom, earning a spot on the NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year.
