NASHUA, N.H.--The Connecticut College women's basketball team cruised to a 79-60 victory at Rivier College in a non-conference game played at the Muldoon Center Thursday night. The Camels improve their record to 4-1 with the triumph, while the Raiders slip to 3-2 in the setback. Sophomore Tara Gabelman (Irvington, N.Y.) registered her second consecutive double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Camels, connecting on 7-of-13 shots from the field. Classmate Caitlin Cimino (Falmouth, Maine) was 6-for-10 from the floor and finished with 12 points and four rebounds. First year point guard Carlee Smith (Willimantic, Conn.) contributed 11 points and four assists for the winning side. Senior Kim Horne (Newport, N.H.) chipped in with seven point and two rebounds for the visitors. Jenn Shinall (Redding, Conn.) added seven assists and three points without committing a turnover. Shinall needs just 29 points to reach the 1,000 point barrier in her career. The Camels carried a 40-28 lead at the break and never really looked back. Connecticut College held a 48-to-35 edge on the backboards but the most compelling statistic was in the turnover column. The Camels dished out 22 assists and committed just eight miscues in the triumph. Deanna Purcell (Hudson, N.H.) scored 14 of her 16 points in the second half to lead the Raiders. Connecticut College will return home to host Saint Joseph College Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. game in New London.
