Vadas & Harrigan Net 18 Points Each to Lead Camels
NEW LONDON, Conn--Matt Vadas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) and Rob Harrigan (Milford, Conn.) netted 18 points each to lead the Connecticut College men's basketball team to an 85-70 victory against SUNY-Maritime in the first round of the Citizens Bank Camel/Cadet Classic held at Luce Field House Friday night.
John Bullitt (Brookline, Mass.) chipped in with 12 point and seven rebounds on the block while sophomore Jethro Anilus (Stamford, Conn.) added eight points and two assist at the point.
The Camels were a perfect 15-for-15 at the foul line in the win.
"I thought our ball movement was good throughout and we did a good job freeing and finding each other," Connecticut College Men's Basketball Coach Tom Satran said. "We are improving but have a lot of work to do starting with a very tough opponent tomorrow."
Sam Porte (Harlem, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 21 points for SUNY Maritime, connecting on 8-of-10 shots from the field. Senior guard Mike McSloy (Kings Park, N.Y.) chipped in with 19 points for the Privateers (1-5).
Connecticut College (1-3) will meet the Red Hawks of Montclair State University (4-2) in the Championship game Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. on the campus of the Coast Guard.
The Red Hawks had their ticket stamped to the Championship with a 71-67 win against the Coast Guard (4-2) in the second game of the night.
Senior Andrew August (Bridgewater, N.J.) had 21 points and 13 rebounds while junior Ken Rubenstein (South Orange, N.J.) had 15 of his 20 points in the second half as Montclair State held off a late Coast Guard charge to beat the Bears.
Coast Guard, which trailed by as many as 21 in the second half, cut the lead to three, but saw its four-game winning streak snapped as the Bears dropped to 4-2 on the season. Montclair State improved to 4-2 overall.
Greg Marshall (Gaithersburg, Md.) led Coast Guard with 14 points, Trip Fernandes (Branford, Conn.) finished with a season-high 13 points and Kevin Sowers (Monrovia, Md.) added 11 points and a team-high five rebounds for the Bears.
