You're invited: the big Centennial celebration is Saturday

In addition to traditional favorites like Harvestfest, a cappella concerts, soccer on Tempel Green and the all-campus picnic, Fall Weekend this year is full of Centennial extras, including Friday night fireworks and Saturday's "Big Event."

The College's 100th birthday is in 2011 -- it was chartered in 1911 -- and Fall Weekend marks the official celebration.

One of the biggest draws is certainly "100 Years of Great Beginnings," a multimedia production known more simply as 'The Big Event.'

The centerpiece of the Centennial celebration, the event promises to give students, parents and alumni the chance to see Connecticut College like never before. Palmer Auditorium will roar to life when 'The Big Event' begins at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

It will be preceded by an exhibition of bagpipers and drummers from the New London Fire Department. Beginning at 9 a.m., the musicians will gather at three locations across campus and then proceed, playing, to converge at Castle Court around 9:30. Follow along or join the performance outside.

On Friday night, Tempel Green will light up with a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. Guests are asked to bring a blanket to sit on.
