Gildersleeve Wins 100 and 200 Meter Dash at Coast Guard
Duarte Places Second in 1500 Meters for Camels
NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College Track & Field teams competed in the Coast Guard Invitational Saturday.
The women placed third in the 11 team field with a score of 84 points, while the men finished in fifth place out of nine teams with a score of 60 points.
Westfield State won the women's invitational with a score of 135.5 points. The Coast Guard scored 218 points to win the men's invitational in decisive fashion.
Sara Gildersleeve (Sharon, Mass.) posted wins in both the 100 and 200 meter dash to lead the Camel women. In the 200, Gildersleeve qualified for the New England Division III Championship with a time of 26.91 seconds. She posted a time of 13.18 seconds to win the 100 meter dash.
In the 3000 meter steeplechase, senior Kerry Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) posted a winning time of 12:51.29. Maura Hallisey (Wethersfield, Conn.) placed second with a time of 12:54.80 for Connecticut College.
Sam Pevear (Somersworth, N.H.) threw the discus 110 feet, seven inches en route to a second place scoring for the Camels.
The Camel women added a pair of third place scores Saturday. Vicki Weigold (Glen, N.H.) took third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.65 seconds. In the 1500 meter run, senior Ally Bonito (Guilford, Conn.) posted a time of 5:10.42 for the Camels.
The Camel men were led by three second place scorers Saturday.
Andrew Duarte (Rocky Hill, Conn.) posted a time of 4:08.36 in the 1500 meter run. In the 400 meter hurdles, Matt Boudreau (Bridgewater, Mass.) recorded a time of 1:02.00 for the Camels. Sophomore Adem Abraham (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded a mark of 39 feet and one quarter of an inch in the triple jump.
Junior Boris Jeremic (Rijeka, Croatia) chipped in with a third place finish in the high jump, reaching his apex at five feet and seven and one quarter of an inch.
