Connecticut College Women Place Second in Three of Four Regattas
Men's Novice Four Places Second in Opening Weekend of Action
WORCESTER, Mass.--The Connecticut College men's and women's rowing teams opened their spring racing season on Lake Quinsigamond Saturday.
The Camel women placed second in three of their four regattas, while the men's novice four finished second in its regatta.
In the women's varsity eight, the Camel women placed second behind the Polar Bears of Bowdoin College with a time of 7:16. Justine Rooney (Centerville, Mass.) handled the stroke row with Val Goldstein (Brookline, Mass.) guiding the Camels as the coxswain. Jo Collins was positioned in the bow seat for Connecticut College. Sophia Muller (Chula Vista, Calif.), Annie Scheer (Bernardsville, N.J.), Hannah Brassord (Amherst, Mass.), Emily Wilde (Potomac, Md.), Caity Sprague (Bristol, R.I.) and Jenny Cochrane (Hingham, Mass.) were seated 2-7.
The Camels finished ahead of Amherst, Clark and the Ravens of Franklin Pierce in the women's varsity four, posting a time of 7:50 to place second behind Bowdoin College. (7:40). Junior Seana Siekman (Bethel, Maine) was positioned in the stroke seat with Maureen Sweeney (New Canaan, Conn.) on board as the coxswain. Lucy Frye (Wenham, Mass.) and Cody Chase (Berkely Heights, N.J.) were joined by Story Southworth (Andover, N.H.) in the bow seat for the Camels.
In the second varsity four, the Camels posted a time of 8:29 to edge out Amherst and Clark for second place. Bowdoin College won the regatta in 8:08.
Sophomore Mackenzie Jackson (Upland, Calif.) was positioned in the stroke seat. Kate Gulick-Tuers (Ringoes, N.J.) was the coxswain. Lily Beck (Bolton, Mass.) and Irene Bucken (Pepperell, Mass.) were joined by Emily Goldstein (Amherst, Mass.) in the bow seat for Head Coach Eva Kovach's Camels.
In the women's novice four, the Camels posted a time of 8:47 en route to their fourth place showing. Grace Steward (South Hamilton, Mass.) was positioned in the stroke seat with Alexandra Freidman (Bedford, N.Y.) guiding the Camels as the cox. Sarah Fishmen (Lexington, Mass.) and Sarah Bradford (Madison, Conn.) were joined by Chloe Jones (Burlington, N.J.) in the bow seat.
In the men's action, the Camels, captained by Matt Larkin (Trumbull, Conn.) and Matt Murdock (Middletown, Conn.) opened their 2012 season.
In the novice four regatta, the Camels finished in second place behind Bowdoin College with a time of 7:38.
The Camel men added a pair of fourth place finishes in the varsity four (7:36) and in the second varsity four (7:31), outlasting the Cougars of Clark University in both regattas.
