LeDuc Wins 5000 Meters for Camel Men at Stonehill
Matthews Places Third in 400 Meter Dash for WOmen
NORTH EASTON, Mass.--The Connecticut College Track & Field teams visited Stonehill College Saturday to compete in the Skyhawk Invitational.
In a competitive field that featured three Division I teams, the women place fifth with a score of 50.50 points. The Camel men scored 30.5 points to place eighth in a 10 team field that featured four Division I schools.
Junior Sarah Matthews (Westwood, Mass.) secured a third place finish in the 400 meter dash, qualifying for the New England Division III and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship with a time of 59.88 seconds. In the 200 meter dash, Sara Gildersleeve (Sharon, Mass.) place fourth with a time of 26.48 seconds.
Samantha Pevear (Somersworth, N.H.) placed in three field events Saturday. In the discus, Pevear covered a distance of 119 feet and one inch to place third, earning an invitation to the ECAC Championship. Pevear threw the shot put 35 feet and 10 inches en route to a seventh place scoring, earning an invitation to the New England Division III Championship. Pevear threw the hammer 125 feet and one inch to place eighth in a season best performance for the Camels.
In the 4x100 meter relay, Vicki Weigold (Glen, N.H.), Sara Gildersleeve, Val Svystun (Newington, Conn.) and Sarah Matthews posted a season-best time of 52.19 seconds en route to their third place scoring.
Amy Klopp (Monroe, Conn.), Aly Bonito (Guilford, Conn.), Merry Byrne (Brookside, N.J.) and Maura Hallisey (Wethersfield, Conn.) place fourth in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:37.36.
The 4x400 meter relay team comprised of Matthews, Gina Deitz (Portland, Ore.), Weigold and Ali Cookson (Beverly, Mass.) finished sixth in 4:25.93.
Sophomore Lauren Cameron (Portland, Ore.) tied for fourth place in the high jump, reaching her apex at four feet, seven inches. In the 5000 meters, Lianne Swanson (Franklin, Mass.) posted a time of 19:09.89 en route to a fifth place showing.
In the men's action, sophomore Mike LeDuc (Canton, Conn.) won the 5000 meters with a time of 14:57.52, qualifying for the New England Division III, ECAC and All-New England Championships in the process. In the same event, Alex Mavrovic (Thetford Mines, Quebec) earned an invitation to the New England Division III Championship with a time of 15:26.31.
Junior Brian Gooch (Columbia, N.H.) posted a time of 11.34 seconds to place sixth in the 100 meters, qualifying for the New England Division III Championship.
In the 3000 meter steeplechase, junior Jeff Beling (Framingham, Mass.) placed fifth with a time of 11:34.14.
The 4x800 meter relay team comprised of Doug Wright (Darien, Conn.), Colin Gallant (Ashford, Conn.), Dan Post (Pepper Pike, Ohio) and Drew Majkut (Upton, Mass.) placed fourth with a time of 8:41.40.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the Camel quartet consisting of Geoff Phaneuf (Woonsocket, R.I.), Aaron Fellows (Hudson, N.H.), Aaron Davis (New London, Conn.) and Matt Boudreau (Bridgewater, Mass.) posted a time of 3:39.80 en route to a fifth place finish.
