Track & Field Connecticut College Men, Women Place Ninth at NESCAC Championship LeDuc Places Second in Steeplechase-Pevear Finishes 4th in Discus Throw

LEWISTON, Maine.--The Connecticut College Track & Field teams visited Bates College Saturday for the 2012 NESCAC Championship. Both teams placed ninth Saturday. The men scored 19 points while the women finished with 10 points. The Bobcats of Bates won the men's championship with a score of 156.25 points and were followed by Tufts (146.25) and third placed Middlebury, who tallied 124 points. Williams scored 180 points to win the women's championship. Tufts (159) edged out Middlebury by two points to take second place. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, sophomore Mike LeDuc (Canton, Conn.) posted a time of 9:17.85 en route to a second place scoring for the Camels. Junior Boris Jeremic (Rijeka, Croatia) finished fifth in the high jump, reaching his apex at six feet, one and one quarter of an inch. The Camels added another fifth place scoring in the distance medley relay. The quartet of Andrew Duarte (Rocky Hill, Conn.), Geoff Phaneuf (Woonsocket, R.I.), Tristan Cole (St. Helen, Calif.) and Mike LeDuc posted a time of 10:26.94. In the 4x100 meter relay, the Camel foursome comprised of Rasheed Mitchell, Brian Gooch (Columbia, N.H.), Phaneuf and Alex DeShields (Melrose, Mass.) posted a time of 44.61 seconds en route to their seventh place scoring. Junior Matt Boudreau (Bridgewater, Mass.), Chris May (Hudson, Ohio), Billy Barnes (New York, N.Y.) and Dan Post (Pepper Pike, Ohio) teamed up for an eighth place finish in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:36.22. In the women's championship, freshman Samantha Pevear (Somersworth, N.H.) set a personal record in the discus for the Camels, finishing fourth with a throw of 123 feet, six inches. In the 100 meter dash, Sara Gildersleeve (Sharon, Mass.) was sixth with a personal record setting time of 12.54 seconds. Junior Sarah Matthews (Westwood, Mass.) posted a time of 59.60 seconds en route to an eighth place scoring in the 400 meters. In the 4x400 meter relay, Vicki Weigold (Glen, N.H.), Gina Deitz (Portland, Ore.), Michelle Wesley (Millwood, N.Y.) and Matthews placed eighth with a time of 4:12.86.
