NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College senior swimmer Tim Walsh of Lincoln Park, N.J. has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Two At-Large First Team in Division III as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Walsh has advanced to the national ballot. The Academic All-America At-Large Team in Division III is scheduled to be released on June 5.
Walsh will go down in history as one of the most dominant and talented swimmers to compete in Lott Natatorium.
During commencement weekend, the senior scholar athlete was honored with The Anita L. DeFrantz '74. The accolade is presented annually to the male and female members of the graduating class whose athletic ability, leadership and sportsmanship best exemplify the qualities of Olympic medal¬ist Anita L. DeFrantz '74.
A nine-time All-American and 12-time NESCAC Champion, Walsh's excellence in the backstroke put Connecticut College in the national spotlight. At the 2011 NCAA Championship, Walsh placed second in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing just .60 seconds behind the national champion. He also placed third in the 200 yard backstroke.
Walsh holds seven Connecticut College records. During his prolific four-year career, the Camels have finished among the nation's top 25 on three occasions. This past February, Walsh received the NESCAC Four-Year High Point Award that is presented to the senior who scores the most points over their four-years of Championship com¬petition.
Walsh was named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 At-Large Team in 2011. He received his degree in economics and computer science this weekend.
