NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College senior Lindsay Paiva of Coventry, R.I. has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 2 Women's Cross Country/Track & Field First Team in Division III as selected by The College Sports Information Directors of America. One of the great runners to compete on the cross country trails, Paiva served as team captain and leader for an improved squad that finished ahead of Hamilton and Trinity at the 2011 NESCAC Championship. Paiva was the Camels' top runner at the NESCAC and New England Division III Championships in each of the past two years and has been honored by her teammates as the team's most valuable runner at the conclusion of both of those seasons. This past October at the team's home invitational in Waterford, Paiva set a program record with the fastest finish for a senior on the 6k course with a time of 23:35. In the classroom, Paiva was honored as a prestigious Fulbright Scholar. She has been recognized as the Christy Burke ‘93 OVCS Scholar and has also been named a PICA Scholar by the Holleran Center for Community Action and Public Policy. A Dean's Honors Student, Paiva received her English degree this Spring to go with a minor in Italian Studies. She also received her certification to teach K-6th grade students in the State of Connecticut and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the national honor society of undergraduate higher education. At the conclusion of her senior year, Paiva was honored as the co-Recipient of the Brown-Brooks Award. Established by the Class of 1984, the Brown/Brooks Award is given to the outstanding male and female student-athletes who best represent the graduating class in scholarship, leadership and sportsmanship. The award is named after its first recipients, Tammy Brown '84 and Jim Brooks '84. With her first team selection in District 2, Paiva advances to the national ballot for All-America consideration. The Capital One Academic All-America Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Team in Division III is scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, June 19.
