Track and Field LeDuc Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for Connecticut College Camel Men, Women Receive Team Award for Academic Excellence

NEW LONDON, Conn.-Mike LeDuc (Canton, Conn.), has been named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Track & Field Team. To qualify for the team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their event. LeDuc garnered All-America accolades in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Claremont, Calif. The sophomore standout posted a school record setting time of 8:59.54 en route to a fourth place finish, besting his previous school mark of 9:01.83 that was set at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship May 18. He also moved up two spots from his All-America finish in 2011. In June, LeDuc was honored on the Capital One Academic All-America Men's Cross Country/Track & Field Third Team in Division III as selected by The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). In addition to the individual recognition for LeDuc, the USTFCCCA also announced the men's and women's 2012 Division III All-Academic Track & Field Teams. A total of 74 institutions earned the distinction on the men's squad as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better while 137 women's track and field squads were honored with the team accolade. "The fact that both our men's and women's teams earned these All-Academic awards and Mike LeDuc was recognized individually says a lot about the type of student-athletes we have in our program," Assistant Head Track & Field Coach/Head Men's Cross Country Coach Jim Butler said. "The entire coaching staff is extremely proud of their achievements." The Camel men posted an impressive mean grade point average of 3.40, while the women landed on the squad with a grade point average of 3.36.
