The 2012 season promises to be another strong one for the Camels. While many programs whose top four runners from the previous season graduated would be embarking upon a rebuilding program, the strongest recruiting class in recent years and some other key additions give the team great optimism for this fall. Look for the team to gain some valuable experience in the early invitational meets and build toward strong championship finishes in late October and November.
While the first-year class will have a major impact on the team's lineup as the season unfolds, a number of returning runners with varsity experience will provide strong leadership and stability. Senior Michelle Wesley held down the fifth spot throughout most of the 2011 season, and she has shown steady improvement each year. Fellow seniors Merry Byrne and Katie Beers were regular scorers for the team in 2010 and return this year after spending last fall studying abroad. Senior co-captains Maura Hallisey and Catherine Hallisey will also be expected to contribute. Junior Grace Glynn and sophomore Heather Rochford have scored for the team in the past and should factor into the team's fortunes again this season.
Among the new additions to the team, strong contributions are expected from sophomore Amy Klopp and junior Marisa Shields. Klopp had a strong spring track season for the Camels, while Shields has had success in several 5k road races while running on her own in the past. First-year recruits who will have an immediate impact include Nicole Adam, Ariana Beers, Anna Laurence, Caroline Leonard, and Emily Winter. It would not be surprising to see all five of them earn spots in the top seven by the end of the season.
