Connecticut College Tops Penn State-Behrend in Opening Weekend of Action
Burns Tallies 12 Goals, Seven Steals for Camels at Annapolis
ANNAPOLIS, Md.--The Connecticut College men's water polo team opened the 2012 season in the Mid-Atlantic this weekend, posting a 1-3 record at the Naval Academy.
Connecticut College opened the season with a 16-8 win against the Behrend Bears of Penn State University. The Camels dropped a 25-8 decision to Navy, the second ranked team in the nation. Sunday, the Camels were on the wrong side of a 12-11 decision to Washington & Jefferson before closing out the weekend in a 17-5 loss to Johns Hopkins University.
Senior Sam Burns (Albuquerque, N.M.) stormed out of the gates with a flying start for the Camels, finishing the weekend with 12 goals and seven steals. Nick DiLeo (Coopersburg, Va.) chipped in with eight goals, four assists and four steals for Connecticut College.
Sophomore co-captain Rob Spencer (Chevy Chase, Md.) contributed with six goals, two assists and two steals. Brian Barasha (Fredericksburg, Va.) netted four goals to go with one steal. Daniel Albers (Aloha, Ore.) registered 14 blocks and five steals over the weekend.
Carlos Heros (Key Biscayne, Fla.) registered seven goals, three assists and four steals.
Junior Clayton Witter (Douglassville, Pa.) made a seamless transition from the goal to the field, finishing with three goals and two steals.
Sam Buchman (Northfield, Ill.) had five blocked shots to go with a pair of steals. Sam Siegel-Wallace (Philadelphia, Pa.) added one assist and one steal for the Camels.
The Camels will visit Brown University Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. Northern Division match in Providence, R.I.
