Camels Halt Bowdoin's 40 Match Home Winning Streak
BRUNSWICK, Maine.--Cailyn Straubel (Dallas, Tex.) posted a double-double with 12 kills, 10 digs and just one hitting error to lead the Connecticut College volleyball team to a surprising 3-0 victory at Bowdoin College Saturday, snapping the hosts longstanding home winning streak at 40 matches.
It was the longest winning streak in Division III volleyball. The loss put an end to a 13 match conference winning streak that dated back to the 2010 season.
The Camels (11-2, 3-2), ranked #5 in New England, upended the Polar Bears (12-2, 3-1), ranked #2 in the region with scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-22 in the deciding set.
"I thought we were pretty solid with our first contact today," Connecticut College Head Volleyball Coach Josh Edmed said. "We were able to establish things in the middle which opened up our offense."
Rachel Schroff (Palos Verdes, Calif.) rifled home nine kills to go with six digs, four assists and three aces for the Camels. Caroline Martin (Palo Alto, Calif.) registered 17 digs to go with eight kills for the winning side.
Senior setter Katie Ketcham (San Francisco, Calif.) tallied 29 assists, 11 digs and three kills en route to the double-double for the victors.
Carly Guiducci (Del Mar, Calif.) continued to build on her early season success, reaching double digits for the defense with 10 digs.
