Marini Posts Third Shutout of Season for Camels
LEWISTON, Maine --(Bates College Sports Informa There was plenty of action, but no scoring, as Connecticut College and Bates College fought their way to a 0-0 draw through 110 minutes of play in a NESCAC men's soccer game on Saturday.
It is the sixth tie this season and the third in a row for Connecticut College (3-2-6, 0-2-6), all of them in conference play.
Bates (2-7-2, 0-6-2 NESCAC) freshman goalie Joe Maffly-Kipp made eight saves for his first collegiate shutout. Connecticut College goalie Casey Marini made four saves in his third shutout this season. Marini has earned the decision in all six of the Camels' ties, for a record this season of 0-1-6.
Bates outshot the Camels 10-5 in the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net.
With 5:25 left in regulation, a hand-ball in Bates' penalty area resulted in a penalty kick for the Camels. But the shot was stopped by Maffly-Kipp to preserve the tie.
Nick Ford put two of his three shot attempts on goal for Bates. Colin Patch had three shots on goal for the Camels, and Billy Hawkey had two more.
The Camels received five yellow cards, while the Bobcats drew four more.
Bates plays a non-conference game at Southern Maine on Wednesday at 4pm. Connecticut College plays at Wesleyan Wednesday at 3:30.
