ARBO Project

Connecticut College students collaborated with OVCS and the Arboretum Office to design and implement this environmental education program. CC volunteers give engaging age- and content-specific tours involving hands-on educational activities to groups of children, youth or adults in the Arboretum. Tours last approximately one hour, during which tour guides show visitors the various habitats in the arboretum, discuss how human and animal influences affect these habitats, and explain the necessity of environmental conservation. The ARBO Project Student Coordinator is a student who works closely with the OVCS staff to oversee the scheduling of tours and coordination of the Student Tour Guides. During the 2005-2006 academic year, 16 free tours were given to over 300 youth from local schools and community groups. Tours were also given to families during CC's Earth Day celebration and Reunion Weekend.
