A Moveable Feast - provides people with AIDS, cancer, or other serious illnesses, and their families with hot nourishing meals. Students help with cooking and delivering food. To deliver, students must have their own car.
AIDS Ministries - helps people with HIV and AIDS through education, advocacy and service. The Ministries also work to increase general knowledge about people living with the disease.
Alliance for Living - provides services to people affected by HIV / AIDS and their families. CC students help to provide non-medical services to patients, such as serving meals and providing transportation.
American Cancer Society - provides education about cancer, treatment options, and health information. Students assist in educational programs, organizing special events, and clerical work.
American Red Cross - CC students assist in the organization and implementation of blood drives and relief services. Students also receive certifications and training, particularly from the Hartford branch.
Beacon Hospice - specializes in providing the highest level of patient care for people at the end-of-life and for their families. Beacon Hospice addresses the experience of death, another natural, normal process. Beacon Hospice continues to expand its service area throughout New England, with offices in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
Beechwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center - a nursing home, rehabilitation center, and sub-acute care facility. CC students assist staff and clients with letter writing, reading mail, leading activities and games, leading current event discussions, and organizing music and art activities.
Camelot Nursing Home - a long-term nursing home for the elderly. Students work mostly in the activity-center, which focuses on parties, arts and crafts, card games, one-on-one contact, letter writing, and other activities. Tours are provided to help students find their areas of interest.
Camp Harkness for the Handicapped - funds programs that benefit individuals with special challenges, including a therapeutic horticulture program. Students help with special events or work with the Booster Club to help with stables, horses, and riding lessons if qualified.
Citizen's Task Force on Addictions in New London County Inc. - works with concerned individuals, local organizations, and legislators to build the capacity of communities in New London county to prevent substance abuse and gambling addiction.
Community Health Center of New London - a community health agency providing medical, dental, and mental health services. CC students organize children's activities, assist physicians, organize client flow, and provide general center assistance.
Integrated Behavioral Health - provides a wide range of mental health services to the chronically mentally ill and/or people with substance abuse disorders. CC students administer client satisfaction surveys, complete data entry, and assist with groups.
Community Partnerships - a Lawrence & Memorial affiliated organization that is committed to improving overall health and quality of life in the region. Students assist with event-planning, organizing outreach to faith communities, and advocate the establishment of better health programming.
Connecticut Breast and Cervical Cancer Program - a Lawrence & Memorial Hospital program that strives to increase the number of women who receive breast and cervical cancer screening services by providing them free of charge.
Covenant Shelter - provides shelter to homeless individuals and families. Students assist in the maintenance of the shelter, provide tutorial services to residents, and serve as mentors for children in grades 1 through 9.
Disabilities Network of E.C. (DNEC) - works to empower persons with disabilities from Eastern CT by helping them to live independently and improving the quality of their lives.
First Step, Inc. - dedicated to serving patients with mental illness and substance abuse disorders. CC students work with clients in entertainment, education and skill groups. Volunteers also help patients move into new apartments. Orientation is provided.
Gemma Moran / United Way Labor Food Center - provides free food to those in need throughout New London county. Volunteers sort, pick up, and deliver food, as well as provide clerical assistance to the center.
Golden Horizons Adult Day Center - specializes in senior citizen day-activities, especially for those with dementia. CC students assist with recreational activities and therapeutic programs.
Groton Regency Nursing Center - a nursing center with a long-term care unit, a short-term unit, and a retirement unit. CC students visit seniors and assist, lead and create activities.
HealthSouth Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Center - specializes in orthopedics and rehabilitation. CC Students shadow sports medicine trainers and assist with needed duties.
Jewish Federation of Eastern CT - committed to promoting and enhancing Jewish life. The Federation seeks to maximize the human and financial resources needed to provide social, cultural, educational, health and human service programs to Jews suffering hardship. CC students pay visits to the elderly.
Joshua Center - a mental health facility that provides services to adolescents and children.
Ledge Light Health District - focuses on public health and demographic research and community health education. Ledge Light tackles a diverse array of subject-matters including: Asthma, Breast Health, Cardiovascular Health, Stroke Awareness, Communicable Diseases, Lyme Disease, and HIV/AIDS, among others.
Martin House - a residential program for low-income adults. Martin House serves three meals a day and provides case management services. Also provides crisis intervention and educational services.
Mount Moriah Medical Center - a local medical center that provides services to the New London community. CC volunteers often work at the front desk, assist with patients, or shadow doctors. Spanish is often helpful.
New London Community Meals - provides free healthy meals to New London residents who cannot afford it. CC students participate in preparing, serving, and cleaning up after Lunch and Dinner. Lunch is served five days per week and dinner is served six days per week.
Nutmeg Pavilion - a sub-acute care facility and residential nursing home. CC students assist in a variety of ways, including reading to patients, writing letters, leading group activities, and implementing arts and crafts.
Planned Parenthood - a health care and educational organization that provides services to men and women. Volunteers assist with educational services, prepare client charts, file lab results, and assist with the function of reception areas.
The Arc of New London County - provides services to people with disabilities. CC students participate during evenings and on saturdays to assist with community outings and recreational activities. Volunteers also serve as Special Olympics coaches.
United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater SE CT - provides information, advocacy, and direct services to people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. CC students are involved in fundraising, recreational outings, and one-on-one contact with patients.
UPLIFT Teen Pregnancy Prevention Center - a multi-dimensional program for youth that teaches skills to promote healthy lifestyles. Students engage in tutoring, recreation, arts & crafts, and instructing sports, drama, and health classes.
VCA New London Animal Hospital - provides a range of medical services for small animals. Along with assisting staff and volunteering at the animal pound, CC students shadow vet surgeries and help to perform check-ups.
Visiting Nurse Association - visiting nurses travel to homebound patients in Groton, East Lyme, and Stonington to provide educational support and medical services. CC students assist with flu clinics and community health education.
Women's Center of SE CT / Phoenix House - provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Students assist with group work and special projects, provide childcare, and tutor women and children. Volunteers also help with the Center’s transitional housing units.
Yale / New Haven Hospital University Nursing - CC students experience the nursing profession by working closely with a nurse. Volunteers can also volunteer at the hospital in a variety of different environments. Yale/Hew Haven hospital has the oldest established hospital volunteer program in the country.
