History and Government

Blue Slope Country Museum, Inc.

This non-profit museum located in Mystic, CT is dedicated to educating the public about our rural heritage.  Connecticut College students work with small visiting groups during hands-on educational programs.  The museum’s staff will train CC students in this great opportunity for anyone interested in education and history.

Commission on Human Rights

Their mission is to eliminate discrimination through civil and human rights law enforcement and to establish equal opportunity and justice for all persons within the state through advocacy and education.

Hempstead House Museum / Antiquarian & Landmarks Soc.

This museum of the 18th century Hempstead Houses needs volunteers for tour guides (paid summer position), special event set-up, research, inventory work, hearth cooking, and garden maintenance.

Lyman Allyn Museum

This museum houses a permanent collection of over 15,000 pieces, including paintings, sculpture, drawings, prints, furniture, decorative arts, and American art from the 18th through 20th centuries.  Connecticut College students assist with research, outreach programs, lectures, art classes, and help set up exhibits.

Mystic Seaport

Internships are available to research the history of New London in the areas of slavery, abolitionism, and, more specifically, the Amistad.  Students are encouraged to create a team-taught course; re. New London History.

New London Landmarks

An establishment which stresses the importance of both preservation and education.  CC students research New London architecture and help with fundraising, events, and general office duties.

New London Maritime Society

This is a museum dedicated to promoting and preserving N.L.'s maritime history and heritage.  CC students act as interpreters, guides, and behind the scenes research and collections personnel.

Saint James Church

The Saint James Church is involved in numerous social services and needs Connecticut College students for general office duties, website design, and the preparation of both a church directory and newsletter.  The church is also in need of a parish historian/archives assistant.

U.S. Coast Guard Museum

Presenting 200 years of America's premier maritime service.  Features include models, cutters and various other vessels.
