  • Engage visitors, especially children, by bringing an interactive approach to education by making science and learning fun, not threatening.
  • Work with any of the 85 hands-on activity stations depending on volunteer placement including a light and laser room, sound room, wood working shop, physics hall, electricity and magnets room, pond life room, early childhood room, resource center/library, marine life room or the many miles of Arboretum trails.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills for all of the following volunteer positions.
  • Floor Facilitator: helps visitors understand and play with our many hands-on interactive exhibits.
  • Special Programs Assistant: Assist with the design and implementation of classroom, hands-on programs. During the school year there is a minimum of five programs every week that are designed for school groups ages 4-16.
  • Special Events Assistant: Coordinate, set up and clean up for special events such as the Haunted Trail, Herp Day and Dog Day.
  • Visitor Services Assistant: Complete all tasks associated with running an admissions and science store desk.
  • Office Assistant: Provide clerical support for daily and special projects.
  • Animal Care Assistant: Provide feeding and cleaning services for aquatic and terrestrial animals.
