Psychology, Early Childhood & Human Development

Alternative Incarceration Center

Students work with individuals, groups and the community to assist persons who are receiving supervision because of law violations. 

Association for Retarded Citizens New London County (ARC)

This organization strives to improve the quality of life of individuals with mental retardation in any and every way possible.

Boys & Girls Club of SE CT

This is a positive youth development program that promotes and enhances competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.  CC students are needed to help with special events, youth work, mentoring, and administrative support.

Catholic Charities

This is a family services agency that needs CC students to perform a wide range of services for the homeless population.  Volunteers are also needed for pregnancy and mentoring programs (DCF teams).

Child and Family Agency

Program assists youth on probation & those who demonstrate special needs.  Child and Family tries to reduce repeat referrals by promoting positive involvement with the community. CC students assist with counseling, vocational training, educational and recreational activities.

Children in Placement, Inc.

This agency both trains guardians and tracks children that have been placed with them.  CC students would be involved in clerical work, desktop publications, and volunteer recruitment in addition to other significant activities.

Children's Discovery Center

This organization works with infants, toddlers and summer camps.  CC students assist with playground supervision, arts and crafts and field trips

Community Solutions Inc.

CSI provides supervision, treatment and comprehensive individualized services to help socially disadvantaged adults and juveniles.

Connecticut Center for Prevention of Child Abuse

This is a non-profit program dedicated to prevention of all forms of child abuse with an emphasis on promoting healthy family relationships.

Connecticut College Children's Program

A collaboration between the College, the New London Public Schools, and the Thames Valley Council for Community Action.  Conn students assist teachers, relate to students individually, lead group activities, and supervise arts and crafts projects.

Connecticut College Woman's Center

This on-campus organization provides support services to CC women, and also assembles discussion-groups pertaining to contemporary women's issues.

Department of Children and Families (DCF)

One intern position available for two 8hr days.  In order to preserve families, this organization protects, improves and supports family well-being.  Junior & Senior Students preferred.

East Lyme Youth Services Association

This agency promotes positive youth development and provides support for families.  CC students help with after-school activities as well as arts and crafts.

Groton Family Support Center

This center offers various kinds of education and support to parents and other caregivers.  Anyone with at least one child in their care or who is pregnant may use their services.

Madonna Place

This agency provides services that strengthen families, and hosts programs designed to prevent child abuse and neglect. CC students are involved in the "Nurturing Program", teaching positive parenting and empathy techniques. They also participate in group play with children up to age 3.

Montville Alternative Education Center

This center provides high school education to youth that have been identified with special behavioral and emotional challenges.  Conn students provide one-to-one tutoring and mentoring.  Volunteers also assist with group work and lead sports programs.

Niantic Center School

True to its traditions, Niantic Center School strives to help children master their basic skills, develop a strong work ethic and become self-reliant learners.

Noank Baptist Group Homes, Inc.

An organization which provides support to adolescent girls who cannot live with their families.  The agency also works to resolve personal issues while encouraging both responsibility & self-sufficiency. Conn students assist with tutoring/teaching, mentoring, group work and recreational activities.

Riverfront Children's Center

The center fosters self-esteem in children whose parents are working or in school, and cares for them in a safe, stimulating environment.  The CC students read to the children, and lead activities in art, music, creative movement, science and cooking.

Thames House Group Home

This is a 24 hr. residential group home for adolescent girls where residents can learn the life skills necessary for family reunification or independent living.  Girls attend educational programs, and individual & group counseling.

TVCCA Early Care and Education / New London Head Start

TVCCA is a pre-school center where CC students assist teachers with educational activities.

Waterford Country School

Waterford Country School is a residential school for adolescents with significant emotional and behavioral issues.  Conn students tutor in classrooms, assist with group work and lead recreational activities.
