Philip Ray, Associate Dean of Studies for Juniors and Seniors

Associate Dean of Studies for Juniors and Seniors Philip Ray is the dean responsible for the academic advising of juniors and seniors, including Return-to-College students.

As a long-time administrator at the College and a member of the Dean of Studies team, he is committed to the institution’s mission and core values and possesses a deep knowledge of its academic regulations and requirements. His office works closely with other offices within the Dean of the College division: Student Health Services, Student Counseling Services, Disability Services, CELS, Student Life, Residential Education and Living, Roth Writing Center, Religious and Spiritual Life and Unity House. In addition, he also interacts on a regular basis with the offices of the Registrar, Study Away and Financial Aid Services.

Dean Ray's advising is available in the areas of:

  • individual studies
  • honor theses
  • post-graduate fellowships

He works in conjunction with Deborah Dreher, Associate Dean of Studies for Fellowships and Scholarships, regarding fellowship advising and is the campus contact for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program and the prestigious Rhodes fellowship. Dean Ray, in his capacity as Chair of the Committee on Student-Designed Interdisciplinary Majors and Minors, meets regularly with students interested in designing their own major or minor. Refer to page 29 of the Connecticut College Catalog for more about student-designed  majors and minors, and the Academic Advising section on SDIMM.  Students may find the SDIMM form on CamelWeb at "Forms and Documents/Associate Dean for Juniors and Seniors."

As Associate Dean for Juniors and Seniors, Dean Ray is also responsible for overseeing orientation for transfer students.

As an Associate Professor of English, Dean Ray advises English majors and teaches a First-Year Seminar in the fall and a fantasy course in the spring. View his faculty profile to learn more.
