Freshman Focus

Freshman Focus

Intedisciplinary work is a hallmark of the Connecticut College approach to the liberal arts.

As a member of the Class of 2012, you're eligible to participate in Freshman Focus, an integrative, writing-intensive program designed to promote intellectual engagement both inside and outside the classroom.

If you decide to enroll in this special program, you will find that Freshman Focus is both exhilarating and challenging.

Collaborative study and discussion are encouraged, so the 25 Freshman Focus students live together in adjacent residential houses. Courses are coordinated in a year-long format that merges the perspectives you acquire into a richer understanding of human events.

Freshman Focus for 2008-2009 brings together courses on literature, anthropology, economics, and philosophy. The program begins with a case study -  the collision of cultures that occurred when Spanish conquistadors landed on the coast of Mexico in 1519 - that is introduced through selected summer readings.

The deadline to submit the application and your statement of interest is  June 2.
