LGBTQ Resource Center Programs
Queer Peer Mentoring Program
The Queer Peer Mentoring Program connects incoming lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning students with upperclass LGBTQ students who have experience being "out" at college. Goals of the program are to provide guidance and information to incoming LGBTQ students about queer life at Connecticut College and to support incoming students who may or may not be "out" in their home communities or at College. New students will be admitted at the start of each semester. For more information e-mail the Center, or download the informational brochure.
Faculty/Staff Discussion Series
Students initiated this extremely successful series during the Spring of 2007 to reach out to role models in the community and learn about various aspects of LGBTQ life as experienced by our own faculty and staff. Speakers include openly lesbian and gay people as well as allies and those with LGBTQ family members.
Speakers Bureau
Peer Educators share their experiences about their sexual orientation and gender identity in panel discussions across the campus. Such presentations feature personal stories and reflections by LGBTQ students and allow for questions from the audience. The Speakers Bureau at Connecticut College was formed in 2008 and gave its inaugural presentation during Common Hour on Friday, April 11th, called "Speaking Out about Being Out."
Special Events
The Center hosts many special lectures and workshops throughout the year. For the latest information on these events, see our "news and events" page or consult the Online Calendar of Events. To receive a bi-weekly listing of upcoming events, join our e-mail list by contacting the Center.
Orientation Workshops
The LGBTQ Resource Center plays an active role in new student orientation by providing educational workshops and resource support for student leaders and first year students.
Workshop Series
Student Coordinators are available to provde educational workshops and training programs to the campus community. Popular programs include "Breaking Down LGBTQ Stereotypes" and "How to Be an Ally." Coodinators will gladly meet with classes, residence halls, athletic teams, and other student groups.
Campus Outreach
Center staff regularly meet with various offices and departments on campus to inform others about the resources at the Center as well as to ensure that the needs of LGBTQ students are being met in all areas of campus life.
