Jennifer Manion, Ph.D., serves as Director of the LGBTQ Resource Center and is also a Visiting Assistant Professor of History.

Students

The LGBTQ Center Planning Committee is a group of student volunteers who staff the Center and meet regularly for training and informational sessions to determine how to best meet the needs of the LGBTQ community on campus. Get to know the students who run the Center.

Tiffany Ayala '10 is originally from New York but now is based in Hartford, CT. Tiffany majors in Sociology Based Human Relations and minors in Computer Science. She is active in ALANA, Habitat for Humanity, FLIP, UMOJA, La Unidad, and is a House Diversity Coordinator. Her favorite quote: "Live life to the fullest, you never know if tomorrow will come."

Annie Brown '10 is from Fairfax, VA and majors in Cognitive Neurolinguistics with a minor in Mathematics.  She is active in theater, women’s rugby and dance. She is also vice-president of the Campaign for Gender Identity Awareness. Her Favorite quote is, “It is a curious thought, but I is only when you see people looking ridiculous that you realize just how much you love them.”

Luisa Dickson '10 is from Bridgeport, CT and majors in Biology with a concentration in Cell and Molecular Biology. Luisa is involved with UMOJA and her favorite quote is, "I love to laugh . . . it's my only cure to this world of insanity."

Jason Goodman '11 is a sophomore and an Ethnobotany major. He is Co-Chair of Spectrum and helps staff the LGBTQ Center. Jason is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he went to a Quaker School.

Larson Hogstorm '09 is this year's Diversity Chair for Spectrum and is also a senior studying Biochemistry Cellular and Molecular Biology. He has been involved in Spectrum since his freshman year and, as the Political Chair, has represented Spectrum on the Cultural Diversity Committee. He enjoys high fives, mythical stories about pre-historic beasts and vegetarian food.

Tristan Husby '09 is from Lexington, MA and majors in Classics. Tristan is active in CCLeft, FemMaj, Fair Trade Initiatives, STAND, and Spokespeople. He says, "I'm a giant nerd trying to make the world a better place."

Laila Johns '10 is from New York, NY. Laila is a Gender and Women's Studies major and a government minor. Laila is chair of Spectrum and involved with the NAACP, UMOJA, CQ2, and CGIA and her favorite quote is by Lillian Smith: "Our right to be different is, in a deep sense, the most precious right we human beings have."

Lisa Kalan '11 is from Philadelphia, PA and is involved in Spectrum and Chamber Choir.  She also bakes for Coffee Grounds.  Her favorite quote is by Eleanor Roosevelt: "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

Lakshmi Kannan '10 is from India and majors in Gender & Women's Studies and Economics. Lakshmi is also active with the Women's Center and CCASA. Her favorite quote is by Ernest Gaines: "Why is it, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns, than holding hands?"

Claribel Marmol '10 is from Bronx, NY and majors in Biology with a Cell and Molecular Biology Concentration. Claribel is chair of Feminist Majority and is involved with OVCS, La Unidad, House council, and Eclipse. Her favorite quote is  "Someday everything will make perfect sense. So for now, laugh at the confusion, smile through the tears, and keep reminding yourself that everything happens for a reason."

Kat Meyers '09 is from North Stonington, CT and double majors in Religious Studies and History. Kat is active in SAC, Spectrum, CQ2, Peer Educators, and CCET. Her favorite quote is by Ani Difranco: "I aint no damsel in distress, I don't need to be rescued."

Gwen Shockey '10 is from Princeton New Jersey. Gwen majors in Fine Arts and minors in Gender and Women's Studies and Psychology. She serves as the manager of Coffee Grounds and organizes the Center's Art Shows. Favorite quote: "The people, places, moments, pieces of art that make us feel something give us purpose. I think we should not be afraid to recognize this."

Jonathan Skalski '11 is from Quaker Hill, CT.  Jonathan majors in French with a focus on cultural expression. He takes part in Sprout, Spectrum, CQ2, and volunteer work in local schools. His favorite quote is by Bernardo Bertolucci "It's so beautiful it's incandescent."

Renee Stainrod '11 is from Bloomfield, CT and majors in Psychology based Human Relation with a minor in Government. She is active in UMOJA, Women's Rugby, and Explore. Her favorite quote is: "The journey to life is what you make of it, not what's already there."

Seth Wallace '10 is a psychology major from Boston, MA. He is the president of the Campaign for Gender Identity Awareness and a coordinator for the LGBTQ Resource Center on campus. Seth loves sushi, gender neutral space, and works as a body piercer in Groton, CT

Erin Wilson '11 is from Longmeadow, MA.  Erin is a History major, as well as a tentative Religious Studies minor and participant in the Museum Studies certificate program.  She is the treasurer of Spectrum.

Rachel Zelinsky '10 is from New York, NY and majors in Environmental Science with a Theater minor. Rachel is active is Spectrum, R.E.C., and is co-facilitator of CQ2. Favorite quote: "If male homosexuals are called "gay," then female homosexuals should be called "ecstatic."
