OVCS awards and distinctions
National recognition for OVCS
Connecticut College has earned a national reputation as an "Engaged Campus" with outstanding service-learning programs and community partnerships.
In February, 2009, Connecticut College was the only Connecticut school to be named by the Corporation for National and Community Service to the President´s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction, in recognition of extraordinary volunteer efforts by the College and its students. The College has been included in the Princeton Review's book "Colleges with a Conscience: 81 Great Schools with Outstanding Community Involvement" for its dedication to combining academics with community service.
College and universities across the country invite Connecticut College faculty and staff to assist in the development of their own service programs.
Connecticut State Department of Higher Education recognizes OVCS
OVCS students and programs have also earned a wide range of local, state, and national honors and awards.
- In April 2008, Sandro Aguilar '08 received a 2008 Higher Education Community Service Award from the Connecticut Department of Higher Education for his passionate engagement in youth development and community service. Aguilar said. "It is truly a privilege and an honor to have been recognized for all my hard work by the State of Connecticut."
The State of Connecticut also recognized:
- Jesse Meadow '08 for her work to strengthen the ties between the campus and the New London community;
- the student volunteers with OVCS Project KBA (Kids, Books, Athletics) for promoting reading and physical fitness with elementary and middle school students in New London;
- Misha Johnson ´08, Tyler Dunham ´09, Michael Seager ´09, Benjamin Pedley ´09 and Leia Crosby ´08, for developing a campus composting system using Earth Tubs.
- Nicole Adams '06, Ralph DeLouis '06, Matthew Eaton '06, Robinson Rojas '06, and Mark Sabagereka '08 earned Connecticut Department of Higher Education Community Service Awards. Adams received her award for outstanding individual service as a student. DeLouis, Eaton, Rojas, and Sabagereka were recognized for their contributions to the success of the MY BROTHER mentoring program.
- In May 2006, the Connecticut Department of Higher Education recognized Natasja Eerens '06 for Outstanding Community Service and Leadership for her community work in education and dance and Project KBA (Kids, Books, and Athletics) for an Outstanding Community Service Program.
