Meet the Deans
Students, and their parents and families, are not always certain what deans "do."
The Dean of the College Community supports the College's mission as a residential, liberal arts college to prepare students for a lifetime of intellectual endeavor and civic engagement by fostering the integration of students' experiences inside and outside of the classroom.
The Office of the Dean of Studies is part of the Dean of the College Community division and oversees the academic aspects of the lives of Connecticut College students. The Academic Deans include the Dean of Studies, the Associate Dean of Studies for Freshmen and Sophomores, and the Associate Dean of Studies for Juniors and Seniors. The Academic Deans' primary mission is to help students in the development of their life goals.
The Dean of Student Life is responsible for the oversight of campus-wide student development efforts and co-curricular education and the Office of Residential Life & Housing.
The Dean of Religious and Spiritual Life gives this tradition a formal "home" in the life of the College. Students are encouraged to consider larger questions about their purpose and role in this world. As they examine their values and beliefs, they gain a greater appreciation for beliefs different than their own and respect for those who hold those beliefs.
The Dean of Multicultural Affairs coordinates efforts to advance equity and diversity, to provide resources needed by students from diverse backgrounds to assure achievement and success, and to establish commitment to pluralism goals as a central part of activities in support of all students.
Associate Dean Deborah Dreher is the Associate Dean for Fellowships and Scholarships and Director of CELS.
The Dean of the Faculty oversees all academic departments, centers, and programs at the College; and is responsible for appointment of academic department chairs and directors of interdisciplinary major programs; the appointment, promotion, tenure and termination of individual faculty members; and oversees the academic quality of the College's curriculum.
