Connecticut College’s president-elect, Katherine Bergeron, met with faculty, staff and students for the first time in an informal reception Aug. 21 in Shain Library.
The chief academic officer for undergraduate education at Brown University since 2006, Bergeron said she had received hundreds of emails from people at Brown telling her what a great place Connecticut College is—“as if I needed to be convinced!” Here, with VP of Administration Ulysses Hammond.
Bergeron said it’s an “unbelievable honor” to steward a great liberal arts college like Connecticut College, which will “make America better because of the kinds of students we are going to produce.”
A native of nearby Old Lyme, Conn., Bergeron said she was happy to be coming home, and, “What’s very meaningful to me is the kind of place that I’m coming home to.”
Board of Trustees Chair Pamela Zilly ’75, who also chaired the Presidential Search Committee, introduced the president-elect, saying, “she quickly became a very obvious choice.”
