Student Faculty Research

Student-Faculty Research

Connecticut College's academic departments offer numerous opportunities and facilities for research on campus, in the local community and around the world. Projects can be tailored to the needs and interests of individual students; fellowships and grants are sometimes available to help with expenses. You may spend the summer doing research with a faculty member on campus or in the field.

  • The Keck and Jenkins undergraduate science programs offer summer research stipends for students in the sciences and mathematics.
  • ConnSSHARP, the Connecticut College Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts Research Program, offers summer research stipends in the humanities and social sciences. The stipends are offered on a competitive basis, and the summer research projects typically are followed by research during the academic year.

You'll acquire valuable research skills

Research gives you an opportunity to delve into subjects you're passionate about and tell others what you have uncovered. In the process, you gain firsthand knowledge of the subject. You also develop important analytical skills and learn to collaborate with other students and with faculty. Connectiut College professors enjoy working with students and encourage their questions.

Faculty-student collaboration

Research is a priority for our faculty; our students often collaborate with their professors on research projects and co-author papers - even book chapters - with them. This collegial approach guides student researchers and strengthens their results.

The College recognizes faculty excellence in research through the Nancy Batson Nisbet Rash Faculty Research Award, given annually at Convocation.

Here are some, certainly not all, of the opportunities for student-faculty research:
