These are a few of the opportunities that await you in the Computer Science program at Connecticut College. Whether you take one course or become a major, whether your experience with computers is non-existent or extensive, you will learn, be challenged, and have fun.

Our philosophy is to make our students experienced problem solvers, versed in theory and familiar with a variety of paradigms. Emphasis is placed on the ability to solve problems and think independently as well as on understanding the role of computer science in and amongst the liberal arts.

Our Computer Science program offers undergraduates a thorough basis in the fundamentals of computer science and exciting opportunities to gain research experience with advanced technologies.

The fundamentals include learning about data structures, computer architecture, software design, algorithms, programming languages and object-oriented programming. Through advanced work in computer science, you can learn about artificial intelligence, robotics, virtual reality, 3D graphics, digital signal processing, music perception and cognition modeling and computer-user interfaces for musical applications.

We encourage our students to perform internships, participate in summer research and to pursue independent studies. The College offers a major and a minor in computer science and a student certificate from the Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology. Computer Science lab facilities include standard UNIX and PC labs as well as specialized labs in robotics, networks, virtual reality and digital signal processing. The robotics lab is equipped with Sun workstations, PCs, robots, and overhead cameras. The virtual reality and signal processing lab (part of the Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology) has high-end graphics PCs, head-mounted displays, 3D trackers, force feedback devices, spatialized audio devices and software for producing high-end animations and graphics. Students who are in advanced courses or who are doing research projects have access to these labs 24/7.
