Drawing from the utopian vision of Printed Matter’s founders to place art works in airports, supermarkets, and waiting rooms worldwide, Ishiguro will discuss how today’s rapidly evolving landscape of digital music presents new possibilities for fulfilling Printed Matter's original vision. Advanced recording software, online distribution, mp3s, and portable music devices have created a new mode of cultural production and distribution, empowering a group of artists and cultural audiences who can now reach beyond the commercial mainstream to assert a unique and emergent worldview reflective of post-digital culture.
Momo Ishiguro is a producer, songwriter, and Development Manager for Printed Matter, Inc., the New York-based non-profit organization devoted to artists’ books and related publications. She recently oversaw the organization’s major fundraising efforts to move to a historic new home in Chelsea this fall. Under the mononym Momo, she produces electronic and R&B-inflected music that examines the role of cultural industries in shaping consumer identities. Her debut EP Intl Style was released this fall.
