Dear Members of the Connecticut College Community,
I invite you to join colleagues, classmates, and friends at our third annual All-College Symposium, on Thursday, Nov. 4. In this culminating Connections event, 200 seniors in our pathways and centers will present the results of their work over the past three years.
Through talks, panels and poster sessions, our student presenters will highlight the connections they have made among their courses and research, their jobs and internships, their work in local communities and around the globe—along with the questions that animated their choices along the way. The whole campus is encouraged to witness this major student conference.
You will find more information on the Symposium website, where you can peruse the schedule, meet some of the speakers, and locate instructions for downloading the Guidebook app on your mobile device. The app will allow you to search by speaker, topic, pathway or center to find all the information you need to navigate the day.
The front lobby of Cro will serve as headquarters for this year’s Symposium. Between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m you can pick up symposium treats or get help with the Guidebook app. At the end of the day, we will come together outside, under the tent on Tempel Green, to reflect on the experience.
The symposia of 2019 and 2020—one in person, one entirely online—were truly memorable for the way they showcased the intellectual creative energy of this campus. We know this year’s presenters are building on that twin success, and I am proud of them. Our seniors have persevered in the midst of an ongoing pandemic to do independent research in archives and laboratories; to create art, music, film, and dance; and to serve communities both here and abroad. I hope no one will miss this opportunity to learn from them.
I am even prouder, though, of our faculty and staff who have inspired this excellence. Through superb mentorship and exemplary service during one of the most challenging periods we have ever known, they have shown us what it means to put scholarship into action. This collective effort is certain to make our 2021 All-College Symposium our most engaging one yet. And I do hope every one of you will attend.
I look forward to seeing you on Nov. 4.
